Fighting cancer one step at a time

AUBURN_ Empowering people and raising funds in the fight against cancer is the premise and mission of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life movement. At Relay for Life events, communities across the world come together to honor cancer survivors, honor loved ones lost, and raise funds and awareness to help eradicate cancer forever. To date, over 4 million people in 20 different countries have raised money for the Relay for Life movement.


Heat Illness and Proper Hydration

Due to the summer heat and humidity, it is important to make an extra effort to stay properly hydrated. Dehydration is a major factor in heat related injuries.

If you plan to exercise for over an hour in hot, humid conditions, sports drinks provide not only fluid, but carbohydrates and sodium. A sports drink is preferable, especially if you sweat excessively.


South County Physical Therapy, Inc. Founder Exceeds Fundraising Goal

AUBURN _ South County Physical Therapy, Inc.’s CEO and Founder Catherine (Cathy) Hoover-Smith recently completed the Bike MS: Cape Cod Getaway 2013, held on June 29 – June 30. This was the third time she rode in this race that supports Multiple Sclerosis research, and this year, and for the first time, she exceeded her fundraising goal.

AUBURN — A world free from multiple sclerosis (MS), a chronic disease that attacks the central nervous system, is the ultimate goal behind the various Bike MS rides held annually across the country.

Bike MS first began in 1980 after 200 cyclists rode the first Bike MS ride (formerly known as the MS Bike Tour or MS 150) from Minneapolis to Duluth. This inaugural race raised $33,000. In 1981, additional National MS Society chapters began holding their own Bike MS rides and, in 1985, the National MS Society adopted the ride as an official event which every chapter can hold each year.
