At South County Physical Therapy, physical therapists specializing in pelvic floor dysfunction offer pelvic floor rehabilitation services focused on the assessment and treatment of incontinence issues and various pelvic pain conditions. Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy addresses the muscles of the pelvic floor and may include specific manual techniques to improve tissue and muscle function. Therapeutic exercise for the core and pelvic floor is also a key part of rehabilitation.
Our unique program addresses pelvic floor rehabilitation for both male and female clients. Treatment, which usually lasts 8 to 12 visits, will include a comprehensive evaluation and the use of a wide range of treatment modalities. These treatments may include biofeedback, exercise prescription, neuromuscular stimulation, patient education and functional training.
Your First Appointment: Please Arrive 15-20 minutes early to allow ample time for your visit. Dress in loose comfortable clothing. During this visit, a detailed history and a physical examination will be performed which may include specific evaluation of your pelvic floor muscles through transvaginal and/or transrectal assessment. The therapist will review your findings and establish a plan of care with you.
Treatment Visits: Visits are generally scheduled once a week with a therapist for an average of 8-10 sessions. Sessions usually run 30 minutes. Due to the personal nature of the treatment sessions we strongly recommend that minor children do not accompany your visit.
Treatment Considerations: For internal biofeedback program you may be required to purchase a sensor for your private use that you will bring to your sessions. If your insurance does not cover the sensor you will be notified prior to your first treatment visit. If you are participating in internal biofeedback and suspect you have an active yeast infection, vaginal infection, active hemorrhoid or urinary infection (bladder or kidney), you may need to reschedule your appointment. Use of internal biofeedback sensors during these medical situations can adversely affect these conditions. Heavy menstruation will impair use of feedback sensor as well and the appointment should be rescheduled.
