AUBURN — A world free from multiple sclerosis (MS), a chronic disease that attacks the central nervous system, is the ultimate goal behind the various Bike MS rides held annually across the country.
Bike MS first began in 1980 after 200 cyclists rode the first Bike MS ride (formerly known as the MS Bike Tour or MS 150) from Minneapolis to Duluth. This inaugural race raised $33,000. In 1981, additional National MS Society chapters began holding their own Bike MS rides and, in 1985, the National MS Society adopted the ride as an official event which every chapter can hold each year.
Thousands of riders will participate in the Bike MS: Cape Cod Getaway 2013 from June 29-30. This is the largest MS ride in New England, which begins at UMass Boston on the morning of Saturday, June 29 and ends in Provincetown on Sunday, June 30.
